About Us

Scout Network is the fifth section of the Scouting movement. From the time of Baden-Powell, there have been arrangements for young people who wanted to continue after their time in the Scout Section, and in 1967, Venture Scouts were formed from the existing Senior Scout and Rover Scout Sections. During the late 1990s it was decided that, to meet the changing needs of young people, there should be two sections for the over-14s: Explorer Scouts for 14 to 18-year-olds, and the Scout Network for 18 to 25s.
...We are the latter.

BaLiNetwork, stands for Baldock and Letchworth in Network, However, Balin was also a character out of the Hobbit and The Lord Of The Rings. Balin's first line just happened to be "I'd rather have a small beer" and he prefers beer over anything else, which we thought was quite fitting.

BaLiNetwork's programmes will reflect the huge variation in Members' interests. Some of the key elements are helping with District and County events such as Green Beret, Chiltern Challenge and Night Jar, as well as the opportunity to get away, either under canvas or in other accommodation.

We're currently still in the process of getting up and running. Since BaLiN started, we've been having regular meetings only pulling in between 2 and 6 people but desperately want more people to come along. Running an action packed programme is easy with lots of people, but hard if you can’t guarantee numbers.
